Vatican – Servant of God Carlo Crespi towards venerability

(ANS – Vatican City) – On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, during the Ordinary Session of the Cardinals and Bishops who are members of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, a positive opinion was unanimously given regarding the heroic exercise of virtues, the reputation of holiness and signs of the Servant of God Carlo Crespi Croci, (1891-1982) Professed Priest of the Society of St. Francis de Sales, missionary in Ecuador.

In said Session, not only was the doubt about the heroic exercise of virtues by the Servant of God, but also the whole process of the Cause and the ecclesial importance of the Cause itself was submitted to the examination of the members.

Now the Cardinal Prefect, Marcello Semeraro, will submit for the approval of the Supreme Pontiff the conclusions of the Ordinary Session with the request to confirm the opinion expressed by the Cardinals and Bishops Members of the Dicastery in view of the promulgation of the Decree of Venerability of the Servant of God Carlo Crespi.

The common feeling of the gift that was the presence and witness of the Salesian missionary life of Fr. Carlo Crespi, especially in the city of Cuenca (Ecuador), as a great gift is increasingly confirmed, “first of all, for the indeclinable practice of the best human and Christian virtues and, secondly, for the extraordinary cultural work conducted in the different fields of activity; for having guaranteed to childhood an educational path that starting from the free ‘popular’, working class, school he founded arrived to the technical institute.” (writer Luis Cordero Crespo).
