DON BOSCO SIHANOUKVILLE — The Salesians of Don Bosco in Cambodia hold their annual retreat at the Don Bosco Hotel in Sihanoukville from 20 to 26 of March 2022, connected to the retreat of the Salesians in Thailand that met for the same dates at the Salesian Retreat House of Hua Hin. The preacher of the retreats was Mgr. Joseph Prathan Sridarunsil, Bishop of the Dioceses of Surat Thani, southern Thailand. Bishop Prathan is also a Salesian of Don Bosco and he was the Provincial Superior of the THA Province (Thailand, Laos and Cambodia) during the period 1992-1998 and 2004 – 2005 before being ordained as a Bishop by the Pope. The facilitator for the Salesians in Cambodia (translation from Thai to English), was Fr. Ceferino Ledesma, current rector of Don Bosco Phnom Penh. Fr. Ledesma is a missionary from the Philippines who has been in Thailand for many years, before joining the Salesian mission in Cambodia.

Mgr. Prathan preached about the drama of the Faith in front of Jesus, based on the notes of late Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, Bishop of Milan. Bishop Prathan described the relates of the passion and crucifixion of Lord Jesus and the deep meanings of it for the Faith of those who follow Lord Jesus, especially in the religious life.

An answer that enters the brain is what we read in John 3:15, “God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son, that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.” The Lord loves us so much that he gave us His Son. This is a reference point and sums up the entire life of Jesus especially Passion and entering into glory of the Lord.

In Cambodia, 20 Salesians gathered in Sihanoukville to follow the daily preaching of Mgr. Prathan, connected to Hua Hin by an online platform. The Salesians came from Poipet, Battambang, Phnom Penh and Kep, being the community of Sihanoukville the host, making everything ready for the moments of prayer, meditation, liturgy and the technical systems to make possible the reflection of the Salesian Bishop in Thailand.
