Pope Francis has animated the whole world, beyond Catholicism, with his letter or encyclical known as Laudatio Si (Praise Be to You, 2015.) During the 2021 Season of Creation, from 1st September through 4th October, thousands of Christians on six continents get together for a time of restoration and hope, a jubilee for our Earth, and to discover radically new ways of living with creation.
Also the Don Bosco Green Alliance with 450 registered members in 80 countries in just three years, shares a specific contribution in its August 23 Newsletter:
“As we are approaching in one week time (Sept 1, 2021) the Season of Creation, the Don Bosco Green Alliance is taking a moment to celebrate its members. In April 2021, the Alliance completed 3 years of foundation. Throughout these 3 years, we have been inspired by the steps our members have taken towards the care for creation. Their work and perseverance have encouraged us, and we want to share their inspirational stories with you. Through the Season of Creation, we want to highlight these stories by means of videos and webinars. Follow our social media channels for updates, and we hope you will be a part of these celebrations.”
The Cambodian Salesian Delegation of the THA Province, is also a member of the Don Bosco Green Alliance since 2019 through the green campus of Don Bosco Kep and Don Bosco Sihanoukville. The Salesian communities of Cambodia, present in five provinces (Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk and Kep), link environment care with education of children and youth in one of the countries with more biodiversity of the region.
In Kep Province, Don Bosco students and teacher participate in the campaigns to prevent plastic proliferation inside the jungles, ocean and islands, as well as the preservation of marine biodiversity, mangroves protection and native fauna and flora knowledge. Don Bosco Kep is also a solar power school with an intense program of permaculture to increase food production for the school kitchen and environment protection by involving local farmers in programs that protect the humid tropical rain forest, while being self sustainable.
For the end of the academic year 2021 in September, one group of students of the social communication department is presenting a video thesis about the local environment of Kep Province.
