The 20th anniversary of SSCR, a donor to Don Bosco projects
Dear sponsors, donors and friends of Stichting Scholenproject Cambodja ‘Rotterdam’ (SSCR),
On February 14, 1996, SSCR was officially registered as a charity organization with the Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands. Therefore we celebrate today SSCR’s 20th Anniversary!
On this special occasion we would like to “THANK YOU” for supporting all our projects. Without your help and trust in our organization we could not have sponsored so many of the disadvantaged youth and financed the repair or new building of schools in Cambodia! Whether you offered all sorts of services free of charge or you donated money, together we made it possible for lots of children and youngsters to go to kindergarten, primary, high and or technical school.
During the last 20 years SSCR financed the building of 10 crèches, 53 schools including furniture, toilets, playgrounds and recently also with water filters for each classroom. Furthermore, we have been able to extend a school farm, built a video studio with all necessary equipment and financed the printing of 12.600 technical study books in the Khmer language by and for technical students.
In the first years of existence SSCR also built 4 houses with a well for widows, repaired a main village road which was destroyed by flooding and built a policlinic in the countryside. Furthermore, during the last 20 years SSCR handed out some 500 bicycles to orphans and poor children who live far away from school. We also donated 10.000 school uniforms and 8.000 pieces of brand new children clothes to orphans.
With a “Rice bucket challenge” SSCR was able to donate 5.000 kg of rice for the daily warm meals for students of the Don Bosco Technical School. Biblionef Foundation donated children’s books in English for 12 school libraries and other companies sponsored 50 second hand computers, 57 computer tables, a bicycle rack for 100 bicycles and 35.000 pens which all could be shipped free of charge to Cambodia. A notary provided pro deo donation contracts, another notary changed our statues and accountants made their control statements of our yearly accounts free of charge as their contribution towards our projects.
SSCR received periodical or one off donations from private persons, foundations, clubs, recycle shops, companies, church communities and several co-finance organizations. Often these private donations were collected during birthdays, weddings, births, anniversaries, retirement, reunions or crowd funding for sport events. Many of you have travelled through Cambodia and were impressed by the friendliness of the Cambodians, the beautiful landscape, the culture but also shocked by the poverty and decided to contribute to our projects for the benefit of the youth of Cambodia for a better future.
In the first of the two enclosures is a report from Don Bosco Kep Children Fund of their monthly visit to the supported children and this month the distribution of school uniforms, pens and school books. In the second enclosure you will see our most recently successful finished project of a “Girls Home” for 30 female students of the Don Bosco Hotel School from the Guesthouse department in Sihanoukville. The co-finance organization for this project was “Wild Geese Foundation”.
Finally the board members of SSCR would like to say, “Thank you very, very much” for your trust and support in our organization and small development projects for the youth of Cambodia!
With kind regards from SSCR
